Why HMC?
What are the origins of our company name?
The Original HMC
The Historical Brand
Founded in 1913 by Ralph O. Airman and John H. Maughmer the Hume Manufacturing Company would go on to produce 35 tractors which came in 2 models. The Hume 20-30hp and Hume Jr. 12-18hp. In 1917 the company was purchased by the Lyons Atals Co. of Indianapolis ending the brand name. When we were looking for inspiration for a name for our own company we decided that keeping the brand alive more than 100 years later would be more than fitting. The original facility that built Hume tractors is just up the road from our campus today.
